U6 Energy

Below are some links to interesting videos about the exploration of Canada’s oil sands. While you watch them, consider the following questions:

  1. Why is there a lot of interest in the oil sands?
  2. What impact will this exploration have on energy security? (for Canada? for the Middle East? for the rest of the world?)
  3. What are the environmental concerns surrounding the exploration of oil sand? Are these founded? / Is there any evidence of environmental damage or degradation?

We will watch some of these in class, but you should aim to watch the rest in your own time.

There is also lots more information about the Arctic Refuge on their website – http://www.fws.gov/refuge/arctic/
